As the calendar pages turn to the end of the year, the atmosphere at Elevate Gymnastics Academy (EGA) is vibrant with anticipation, both for the holidays and for the exciting potential of the New Year. The goal for every EGA family and athlete is simple: finish the year strong while using the dedication learned on the mat to seamlessly navigate the joyous holiday rush.

Maintaining Momentum Over the Holiday Break
The dedication and routine that EGA students build throughout the year are the strongest tools they have for staying focused as the year wraps up. While the gym will be closed for the Winter Holidays, maintaining fitness consistency is essential to ensure athletes are ready to jump back into their routines.
EGA Owner, Debbie, emphasizes the importance of movement during the break. She cautions that it's best not to get too comfortable with sitting around, constantly on devices, or just simply sitting around too much, as muscle strength can be lost very easily.
To help families stay active, Debbie recommends a simple, non-equipment workout that keeps the muscles strong:
Jog around the block
10 push-ups
20 air squats
20 V-ups or 30 sit-ups
20 arch rocks
Repeat the circuit 3 times
The Power of Family, Fun, and Support
The EGA community understands that gymnastics is a family affair. December's theme of "Family & Fun" highlights the supportive atmosphere that underpins every goal. Events like the Winter Presentations are vital because they give athletes a chance to showcase the skills they have learned.
When families come to support these events, athletes become more motivated to learn, which gives them a sense of purpose for all the hard work they do. Debbie notes that the support and encouragement from families help athletes thrive. This shared experience reinforces the supportive environment that builds confidence and prepares students to tackle the challenges of the new year.
Setting the Stage for New Goals
The work done in December is the preparation for the opportunity that January presents. The process of learning a new skill in the gym serves as a perfect blueprint for setting and achieving any goal, whether academic or personal, in the new year.
According to Debbie, achieving any goal requires a series of steps, just like learning a new skill. This process includes:
Preparation
Consistent work
A relentless belief that you can achieve it
Adjustments along the way
In life, just like in gymnastics, you have to make little gains along the way to achieve the "BIG" goal.
The EGA Guiding Principle: Passion Over Pace
To successfully finish the year strong and start the new year with a forward-looking mindset, EGA emphasizes a core guiding principle. Debbie reminds us that at EGA, each child is on their own path. Some learn fast, some progress slower.
Her advice to parents who want to instill this mindset in their children is to focus on passion:
"In either case, the focus on each child is to have fun doing something that they love. If you have 'passion' in what you do, it doesn't matter how long it takes to achieve your goals."
Bouncing Back for Success
Inevitably, the holidays bring interruptions to routine. The EGA team notes that these special days shouldn't interrupt training too much if athletes are already consistent with their training schedule. They should enjoy the time off and family events.
The real problem arises when athletes are already inconsistent with their training before the holidays. This is when EGA coaches notice athletes become stressed because they are not feeling strong or they notice their teammates learning more skills.
The best advice for families who feel they've lost momentum is to simply regain that consistency. When students return to the supportive, structured environment of EGA, the coaching staff is ready to help them immediately shake off the rust and refocus on their goals.
