Acrobatic Gymnastics at Elevate Gymnastics Academy: The Complete Guide for Elk Grove Families

Every great program at Elevate Gymnastics Academy starts the same way: with a belief that every child deserves a place to build strength, confidence, and community, no matter where they start. That belief is exactly why EGA is so excited to introduce our newest program, Acrobatic Gymnastics, to our Elk Grove gymnastics family.
This is more than a new class on the schedule. It is a full program built from the ground up, with a recreational class for beginners, a competitive team pathway for athletes who want to chase something bigger, and a head coach whose own gymnastics story is woven into the coaches already training your children today. Here is everything Elk Grove and Sacramento area families need to know about Acro at EGA.
What Is Acrobatic Gymnastics?
Acrobatic gymnastics, often called Acro, is a rapidly growing discipline of USA Gymnastics that features pairs or groups performing balances, lifts, throws, tumbling, and synchronized dance. Athletes work in partnerships that build trust, strength, and precision, and every routine blends power, flexibility, artistry, and teamwork into one seamless performance.
Unlike solo apparatus events such as beam or bars, Acro is built entirely around partnership. Athletes learn to support, lift, and trust one another, which means the skills built in this program extend far beyond the gym floor. Communication, patience, and teamwork are just as much a part of Acro training as strength and flexibility.
Acro is also one of the fastest expanding collegiate opportunities in the country. Governed by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA), the sport is now offered at more than 50 universities, with scholarship programs continuing to grow each year. For many athletes, Acro provides a real pathway from youth competition into collegiate athletics and beyond, something few other entry level gymnastics programs can offer this early.
Meet the Coach: Sabina Knight
Every EGA program is only as strong as the coach leading it, and our new Acro program is led by Head Coach Sabina Knight.
Sabina brings years of coaching experience to Elevate Gymnastics Academy, and her impact on this gym runs deeper than most families realize. Several of EGA's own coaches trained under Sabina as competitive athletes themselves earlier in their careers, which means the coaching philosophy she is building this program on has already shaped the very coaches your children learn from every day. That kind of lineage is rare, and it is exactly why Debbie and the EGA family are thrilled to have Sabina leading Acro from the ground up, both recreational and competitive.
Sabina's approach centers on the same values EGA was built on: safety first, technical excellence, and building athletes who are confident and disciplined both on the floor and off it. Families enrolling in Acro are not just joining a new class, they are training under a coach whose fingerprints are already on this gym's success.
The Recreational Program: Where Every Acro Journey Begins

EGA's Acro recreational class is designed to welcome every athlete, whether your child has never tumbled before or is already comfortable flipping and looking for a new challenge.
Ages: 6 and up, boys and girls welcome
Schedule: Mondays at 6:30pm or 7:30pm
Experience needed: None, athletes progress at their own pace
In this class, athletes build core strength, balance, and flexibility while learning the partnership fundamentals that make Acro unlike any other gymnastics discipline. Trust and communication are taught right alongside skills, so athletes leave every class stronger, more confident, and more connected to their teammates.
From Rec to Competitive: EGA's Acrobatic Gymnastics Team
Here is what makes this program different from a typical rec class: it does not stop at recreational level.

Elevate's Acrobatic Gymnastics team trains athletes in the exciting sport of acrobatic gymnastics, combining strength, flexibility, balance, and partnership skills. Our program supports athletes of all levels, from beginners discovering Acro to advanced partnerships preparing for national and international competition. With experienced coaching under Sabina Knight and a positive team culture, EGA Acro helps athletes grow in confidence, discipline, and technical excellence at every stage.
Athletes who fall in love with Acro in our rec class have a genuine opportunity to progress onto this competitive team, training toward increasingly advanced partnership work and higher level competition. And because Acro is an NCATA sanctioned collegiate sport at more than 50 universities, the path an athlete starts on our recreational floor at age 6 can realistically extend all the way to a collegiate scholarship years down the road.

This is not a program with only one entry point and one outcome. Whether your athlete wants a fun, confidence building class once a week or is chasing a competitive future in the sport, EGA's Acro program has a place for them.
Common Questions About Acro at EGA
Is acrobatic gymnastics safe for kids? Yes. Acro skills are taught progressively under experienced coaching, with athletes building strength, flexibility, and body control before advancing to partner work. Safety and proper progression are the foundation of every class at EGA.
Does my child need gymnastics experience to start Acro? No prior experience is needed. EGA's Acro recreational class welcomes complete beginners as well as athletes with a gymnastics or tumbling background, and coaching is tailored to meet each athlete where they are.
How is Acro different from cheer or dance tumbling? Acro is a discipline of USA Gymnastics focused on partnership skills, including balances, lifts, and throws performed with a partner or group, combined with tumbling and synchronized movement. While it shares some tumbling fundamentals with cheer and dance, Acro's partnership work and its NCATA collegiate pathway make it a distinct competitive gymnastics discipline.
Can Acro really lead to a college scholarship? Acro is one of the fastest growing collegiate sports in the country, now offered at more than 50 NCATA member universities with scholarship opportunities continuing to grow. While outcomes depend on the athlete, the recreational class at EGA is a genuine first step on a pathway that can lead toward collegiate competition.
